Investor Relations (IR) combines finance, communication, and marketing to effectively control the flow of information between a public company, its investors, and its stakeholders. While very much a communications position, very few IR departments report in to marketing today. It’s often viewed as a finance position and therefore reports into the CFO or even the CEO in some cases. Recently, Seacoast Bank decided that its CMO could be doubly effective as its Investor Relations Officer (IRO) as well.
